FAMILY ATTRACTIONS in Werfen - ONLY 20 MINUTES FROM THE HOTEL

Giant Ice Caves & Hohenwerfen Castle

World of Ice Giants – the biggest ice cave on Earth!

A trip to the World of Ice Giants is a truly special experience for the whole family!

The entire cave is filled with gigantic ice formations which you and your family will be able to marvel at during your 70-minute guided tour. The carbide lamps you receive at the entrance cast the ice sculptures in a magical light, sparking your imagination as you take in the astonishing impressions.

Even in summer, temperatures in the ice cave remain below 0 degrees Celsius, so don't forget to bring warm clothing, hats, gloves, and good footwear! The cave is made more accessible by means of numerous stairways, so a bit of physical fitness is definitely required.

You should allocate at least 3 hours for the visit.
From the parking lot at the visitor center, you will have a pleasant 20-minute walk to the valley station of the gondola lift. After your lift ride, plan for another 20 minutes of walking from the top station to the cave entrance. Beautifully maintained paths ensure a safe, memorable hiking experience!

You will encounter several restaurants and huts along the way, where you will be able to rest, enjoy refreshments and a bite to eat, and take in the beautiful view of the valley below.

For more than 900 years, this medieval castle has towered majestically above the Salzach Valley. Several guided tours of the castle's interior take place daily (lasting about 1 hour). There is even a special audio guide for children.

Various exhibitions about the history of the castle’s construction, falconry, and historical weapons provide fascinating insights into medieval life.

The bird of prey show is also well worth seeing. Several times a day, falcons, eagles, vultures, and other birds of prey show off their flying skills.

And whenever you please, pause to enjoy a delectable culinary treat at the castle tavernn.

From the parking lot at the bottom, a path as well as a passenger elevator bring you up to the castle. Sturdy footwear is recommended for the walk. Plan in about half a day for your visit to Hohenwerfen Castle.
