An excursion to the Ice Cave Werfen is a very special event for the whole family!

Marvel at the enormous ice formations that can be found here during the 70 minute long walking tour through this enormous cave, illuminated by the special lamps that will be provided to you at the beginning of the tour. You will feel like in a different world.

Please keep in mind that even during summer the temperature in the cave can sink below 0° Celsius (32° Fahrenheit) and that you will need warm clothing for the duration of the tour, as well as a warm cap and solid shoes. Since the way through the cave is made possible by countless flights of stairs you should also bring a certain amount of physical fitness.

Please also keep in mind that this excursion destination requires about three hours of your time.
After arriving at the visitors center you will have to walk a nice path for about 20 minutes to reach the cable railway that will take you up the mountain. After reaching the top of the cable railway you will have to walk another 20 minutes to reach the entrance of the cave where the tour will begin. The paths you will walk guarantee a safe and comfortable walking experience and impress with a marvelous view of the mountains.

Along the way you will also find some restaurants and cabins where you can eat and drink, use a toilet, and find some rest while you enjoy the view.

For more than 900 years this majestic and beautiful castle has been towering above the Salzach valley. If you want to experience it there are multiple tours every day that take you through the castle which take approximately 60 minutes. There even is a special audio tour for children available.

A number of small exhibitions portray the history of the castle and ancient weapon systems as well as the history of the local falconry, providing thrilling insight into medieval life.

We highly recommend the falconry demonstration with birds of prey which take place multiple times a day. You’ll see some amazing air maneuvers by some truly amazing animals.

If you are in the mood for food or drink you will find a castle restaurant here as well.

The castle is connected to the parking lot in the valley with an elevator as well as a walking path. If you choose to walk we recommend you bring good shoes.

If you plan to visit the Hohenwerfen Castle we recommend you plan at least half a day.
